The 25th Hour
I was at dinner last night, and I saw a unread book on a counter top that made me go out and rent the movie that was inspired by the book, or was it the other way around? Anyways the movie I am reffering to is The 25th hour. A movie directed by Spike Lee, or as it is called "A Spike Lee Joint". I remember seeing the last half of this movie a couple of years ago, and really liking it to the point where I had to rent it again and watch the whole thing. A movie with alot of actors that I really like, including Edward Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Barry Pepper (the sniper from SPR). Edward Norton's character, Monty, is a convicted drug dealer, with 24 hours to go before he has to serve a seven year drug sentence in some nasty prison in upstate NY. The story centers around this day, and all that he has to and wants to encounter in his last day. Great performaces by everyone, and movie that really makes you ask yourself what you would do if you had one day left. Who would you see and what would you do? I love how Spike Lee's movies flow, and the style that they have. If you have ever seen He Got Game, another one of my favorites, then you will recognize this movie's style. This movie also takes place right after 9/11, and Lee has no problems showing a New Yorker's reaction and perspective on this event. A great movie, with a great cast, that makes you really think, and really feel for the characters. Although Tony Sirgusa plays a role in this movie, and his Russian accent is so bad. But other then that I suggest you go out and check this one out...Unless you have already seen it, No?
Netflix it is then. I'm always up for anything with Ed Norton. I always though Philip Seymour Hoffman was a little overrated until I saw him in Capote.
