Orange Report: OSU is no cupcake city baby
With my favorite sports team in the land playing its first nationally televised game on ESPN, I have some analysis. Analysis of not just the game, but where I think The Orange are going this season. I must add, that it was a pleasure to hear Dicky V do a game at a place other then Cameron Indoor. The Orange's 72-68 loss at MSG in the Jimmy V Classic gave me a good indication of what I think they will be like as a team this year. The game itself was very sloppy, and OSU has two great players in Boggan and Curry. And Curry by the way really didn’t miss, and hit some big clutch shots for them all game. Cuse has to do a better job on the boards, they got killed on the Offensive glass. They have the frontline to rebound, they were just out of position so much because of penetration and good passes, that OSU players got a lot of easy put-backs. Overall, they did not give up, and this will be a good learning game for guys like Harris.

But holy shit, its the same story every year with the dam free throws, they get killed at the line. They have to do a better job as a team at hitting free throws throughout the game. This Harris kid, while he may be an exciting and explosive player who can get to the basket and throw down some nasty dunks, I don’t think he can shoot outside of 10 feet. He is like 1-11 from beyond the arc, he has to work on his outside shooting to be a major factor like Mello was back in the day. Wright pisses me off. He played ok at times last night, had some nice oops, but he is too up and down. He will have a good stretch, then make bad decisions over and over, he turns the ball over too much. He needs to be more level headed, make better decisions, if he wants to keep that spot. Hes a good ball player, he just does stupid shit, that pisses Coach B off so much. The team missed Devendorf last night, I think he as sick, only played nine minutes. He gives the team an outside threat that they really need to make the inside outside element work for Cuse this season. He plays with fire, plays with passion, and guys feed off him, he can also get to the rim and create for others, so he needs to play well this season. The MVP of this team, and the guy that will make Cuse go as far as they can is Nichols. He shot the shit out of the ball last night, which I hope he can do all season, he plays good D on the bottom of that zone, I love his game, he can pull up from most anywhere and drain it. I love Roberts and Watkins, they are both explosive players, I just worry that they will not be enough of offensive weapons to take them that far. Lets not forget, the Big East is once again loaded, and The Orange will probably fall out of the top 25 at some point this season. They are not a lock to make it to the tourney! They will have to fight for their spot this year. So…Lets Go Orange! We will see what happens, they will have to grow up a little and find their identity if they want to be team to recon with in the Big East.
