Restraint
In recent years, news that Todd Helton might be going to the Red Sox may have set the Yankees off. Steinbrenner may have put the Yankees' name in the running. Prospects would have been offered up. A rash trade may have been made.

I don't think that'll happen this year. If the Sox get Helton then they'll have a distinct advantage over the Yankees' Doug Mientkiewicz. The way this off-season is going though, I don't think Cashman, who's so clearly in control now, is going to counter it. The Yankees have their plan and they've made their moves. If the Red Sox one-up them, then I think they'll just deal with it.

It'd be a good pick up for Boston this year. They'd be giving up Tavarez, Lowell and prospects. Tavarez was better as a started when the season was already over. Lowell had a gold glove caliber season at third. If they give up Delcarmen and/or Hansen the move will be more suspect. I'm not too worried about it though. Helton's Coors Field-inflated numbers have been dropping the past couple years. The Yankees have made enough good moves this winter to make up for one Sox win.
